Most companies don’t spend enough time on strategic SEO growth. They just throw some keywords together, get some backlinks, make a few PR moves and hope for a miracle.
I’m here to tell you that there’s a science to improving the SEO of your site and it’s not rocket science, it’s very simple.
In this post I’m going to review the basics and then provide some kickass growth marketing strategies that will actually improve the rank of your site.
Let’s jump in.
First of all, let’s review the terms. The way your site is ranked by Google is called the Domain Authority (DA), and that’s based on several factors like number of links, age of your site, traffic, number of pages and amount of content you have and keywords you rank for.
Then, google ranks each one of your pages. That’s called Page Authority (PA). That’s a good indicator of how important your pages are. It’s based on the above variables as well.
The easiest variable to change is the number of backlinks your site gets. And that’s what you need to go after to experience explosive growth. Getting more sites to link back to you, that are relevant to your subject matter, improves the domain score of your site.
For example, a lighting company like Lamps Plus has over 5k links back from reputable sites while a competitor like Brightech has a smaller presence and only 1k links. LampsPlus will have a much higher DA and so every single piece of content that they put out on the site will immediately rank higher for the various keywords that they are going after. Brightech will always be behind unless they increase their Google ads spend or generate a viral piece of content.
So how does a company like Brightech get ahead of the game without spending years in the SEO trenches? One really great and easy way is to start an affiliate program.

Step 1 - Get a list of leads
The best tool to use to find a list of sites that would love to link to you is by using NinjaOutreach. Just put in your keyword and choose whether you like to reach bloggers, influencers, or other companies and voila! You’ve got a list of 2k-20k leads depending on the popularity of the keyword you used.
Step 2 - Use an outbound email tool
My personal favorite email tool to use is Mailshake. Export your list from NinjaOutreach to a .csv file and import it into Mailshake. Then create an email campaign, and compose a total of 5-6 emails to go out every 3 days. Once the recipient replies the system counts them as a lead and stops emailing them. We’ve been getting 100-200 emails per day with a 20-30% response rate.
Step 3 - Build long-term relationships
The next step is to build long-term relationships with each one of your leads. You can do this several different ways. You can exchange links by featuring each other on your respective blogs. You can exchange product or hire influencers to review your products. You can also set up an affiliate program where bloggers could sign up to become your affiliate and make a commission. For software the commission level is usually 25-50% for physical products it’s usually 5-15%. There are many ways to build long-term relationships to try out some of them and pick your favorite one.
Step 4 - Follow up to secure the links
After you sign up your affiliates and send them your product you need to follow up with them at least every 1-2 weeks. Some will forget to post about you, others will post but won’t put the link in a visible enough spot. So make sure to reach out to every affiliate and get the most links you can. Ask them to post about you more often and email them with an update on the number of clicks and sales they got. Whatever it takes to get them excited and build that relationship.
Here are the results:
Brightech, the awesome lamp company, literally did this and saw some incredible results. They were able to get 200 bloggers signed up to become affiliates in under 60 days. They got 85 new domains to link back to them and their DA score increased from 26 to 32, which is a 26% increase!
That’s not bad for a 60-day period.
They are continuing email about 5-10k new people every month so they are on track to get 300 affiliates in three months, and soon they will outrank their competitors.
